The second round of the Governor’с Cup that takes place in Saratov, Russia was marked with three decisive games.

Al Moiseenko won over Ni Hua with White in a complex struggle. Putting their knight at h7 on the 13^th move of the English Opening White seemed to be inspired and continued attacking heatedly.

Moissenko refused to choose a risky 19…hxg5 (that could be followed by 20.Bxg5! with further 20…21.Rxf6 Rg7 22.h4 Nf5!? 23.Kh2! Nfe3 24.Rg1 so on; 22…Qe8 might need analyses as well), he preferred to return the material by 19…gxf6 20.gxf6 Nf5. After Chinese Grandmaster unwisely let White King into his camp, White rook, knight and pawn outweighed the White Queen. 

Evgeny Alekseev defeated Ruslan Ponomariov in a tight Berlin Endgame.

Al Morozevich chose a rare move 8.a3?! in the French Defence and he wasn’t wrong as it helped him to celebrate victory against Nikita Vitiugov who is also considered as a French specialist. Let us remind you that the same move was used by Ivanchuk in the game against Carlsen in San Paulo.
