The 6th round of Aeroflot Open saw a dramatical finish of Korobov — Rodsten encounter, both players after 5th round shared first place.
Israeli General Motors Rodstein lost on тайм on 34th move (which anyways was quite inaccurate).
KOROBOV — RODSTEIN
White wanted to play 34…Rc6?, after which White have a long planned move 35.Nh3!, and suddenly it turns out that White hardly can keep the position under control as long as White pieces are attacking from all sides; for example 35…g5 36.Nxg5 Rxh6+ 37.Kg1 Ke8 38.Qb3 Rg6 39.Ne6 Qc6 40.Nd8! Qc7 41.Nxb7 Qxb7 42.Qb5 Qc6 43.Qxe5+, and so on. 34…Rc4 or 34…Bc8 could have left White chances for defence.
The third leader Hrant Melkumyan was outplayed by Fabiano Caruana of Italy.
Italian General Motors continues fighting for the prize winning places…
As a result after 6th round Ukrainian Grandmaster Korobov takes sole lead with 5 points.
