In a sense, a historical event took place in Manila. The head of FIDE during a working visit to the Philippines met with President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC), Jose Cojuangco. Parties discussed prospects of development of the program «Chess in Schools» and then the President of the Philippines Olympic Committee signed a petition to the Head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Jacques Rogge and the IOC members regarding the inclusion of chess in the program of Winter Olympic Games.
Summing up the results of a visit, Ilyumzhinov mentioned that the Philippines became the first country, which officially applied to the IOC regarding the inclusion of chess in the Winter Olympic Games program.
