Reggio Emilia: Nakamura Defeats Vitiugov to Maintain Sole Lead

The sixth round of Reggio tournament was marked by three decisive games. Morozevich missed his шанс of winning back the pawn and was defeated by Caruana, while Nakamura beat Russian Nikita Vitiugov.

Even though Vitiugov played his favourite French defence, he still couldn't resist his American rival. After the opening the position looked double-edged; it'с hard to specify the only turning point in the struggle, but, perhaps, Vitiugov мейд an important mistake by changing his dark-squared bishop.

21…Bxd6? (21…a6!? could have мейд sense with an idea if taking under control b5) 22.Nb5! Qc6 23.Nxd6 Qxg2 24.Qe3 Be4 25.Rc1!, so it turns out that g2 pawn conquered by White is not that valuable as long as White obtain a вери powerful initiative.

Nakamura increased his lead over Morozevich to 4 points, according to «Bilbao систем» the players get 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw.
