Estonian media report that the country’s leading chess players boycotted the national championship
On the site Postimees.ru appeared a message, which states that the best chess players of Estonia refused to participate in this year’s national championship. Due to this fact, the level of the championship was very low. In particular, the tournament boycotted Külaots Kaido, Meelis Kanep and Aleksandr Volodin. The most titled player of the championship occupies only 18 place in the list of Estonian best chess players — the site refers to a newspaper Õhtuleht. Külaots told the newspaper that the limit of trust to the management of chess federation has long exhausted. He mentioned that he expresses his own view, and he is not speaking on behalf of all the leading players in Estonia.
