WWTC: Fortune on Koneru’с Side

The match between one of the outsiders of the Women'с World Team Championship, Greece national team and India turned out to be unexpectedly intense. However, fortune was on the side of the leader of Indian team, a recent challenger for the World Champion title Humpy Koneru.

DEMBO (GREECE) — KONERU (INDIA)

Here Dembo agrees on a draw, but if she had played 26.Bxe4! dxe4 27.Nxe4, White would probably need a good advice of how to save the position.

Due to the specific tactical peculiarities of the position (vulnerability of the Queen h4 and the rook c8, as well as uncomfortable positioning of the Knight b6) White fail to find antidote for the White'с powerful initiative. Threat comes from 28.Nf5, and on 27…Qd8 White can play 28.Nd6, while in case of 27…g6 play 28.Nf3! (with a plan of putting the Knight on d6, while 28…Qh5, would be followed by 29.Ne5!). Diagnoses: White feel unwell.
